October 7, 2018 - Eastern Maine Poultry Fanciers Fall Show

Well, deciding to have a baby meant we’d be lucky to make it to one poultry show this year and we decided to make it our home club show. We loaded the birds in the dark the night before and woke up at 5:30 AM to make the drive to Windsor to make sure everyone was cooped by 9 AM and somehow we made it. It was a wonderful show with some incredible birds. We’re pleased to say that all three breeds we showed performed well. We took 5 Black Copper marans who ended up placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the pullet class and 2nd and 3rd in the cockerel class, with a nice healthy showing of Marans overall. We were thrilled to see what others in the area are producing and honored to take Best of Breed. Our favorite pullet also went on to be selected Reserve Continental. We entered 5 Saxony and 2 Toulouse, the only representatives of their breeds. Despite not having any breed competition, they went on to perform admirably; a Saxony drake went on to be selected Best Heavy Duck and our 7 month old Toulouse goose (a baby for a toulouse!) was selected Reserve Goose.

September 23, 2018 - Cumberland Rabbit Breeders Association Show

We still haven’t decided which Silver Fox will be making the trip to the ARBA National Convention in West Springfield, MA at the end of October but regardless of who’s going, it seemed like we should make sure a show with more than 16,000 entrants was nobody’s first rodeo. So, we packed up the carriers and headed South for the CRBA show. Unfortunately, we ended up only being able to stay for show A, but we had a great showing. Our Quarry Ridge’s Scipio was Best of Breed, while Steamboat Shire’s Kara was Best of Opposite, Steamboat Shire’s Vixen was 2nd in her class (second to Kara), and Steamboat Shire’s Harry was the best (and only) blue Silver Fox.
